Whether buying an alarm clock, selling football tickets, or applying for a mortgage, we all succumb to biases and make decisions that deviate from the standards of rationality assumed by economists. Now behavioural economics is hugely influential, changing the way we think not just about money, but about ourselves, our world and all kinds of everyday decisions. ![]() Richard Thaler has spent his career studying the notion that humans are central to the economy - and that we're error-prone individuals, not Spock-like automatons. Traditional economics assumes that rational forces shape everything. Kominsky-Crumb’s characters and settings, drawn in an expressive style as willfully intense as the sometimes shocking, often boundary-pushing content of her work, are studies in the contradictions that make up individual inner lives. While Kominsky-Crumb ultimately found her calling in the wildly confessional, wryly self-deprecating, and always entertaining comics that have been collected, in part, in her book Love That Bunch, her fine arts sensibility - and especially her investment in portraiture - is never far outside the picture. Those who have read her stories know that Kominsky-Crumb spent parts of her early life grappling with an artistic interest and ambition that was at times encouraged and at other times stifled by those - family, lovers, handsy male art professors - around her. ![]() ![]() FULL DISCLOSURE: As an adult, I’ve only ever really invested in one piece of non-comics art, a painting (Psychedelic Self-Portrait, 2012) by Aline Kominsky-Crumb, the self-described “grandmother” of autobiographical comics. ![]() ![]() ![]() One of the few downsides to the film is that some of the special effects look a bit dated by today's standards. There are also themes of friendship, family, and the importance of staying true to oneself that are relevant to viewers of all ages. The humor is clever and often subtle, with jokes that will go over the heads of younger viewers. While the film is primarily geared towards children, there are also many elements that will appeal to adults. The supporting cast is also strong, with notable performances from Pär Sundberg as Pippi's friend Tommy and Maria Persson as the prissy and uptight Miss Prysselius. The performances in Pippi Longstocking are all excellent, with Inger Nilsson bringing a charm and energy to the role of Pippi that is impossible not to love. ![]() The music is also a highlight, with catchy songs that are sure to get stuck in your head. One of the standout elements of the film is the production design, which creates a colorful and whimsical world that captures the imagination of the audience. The film captures all of these qualities perfectly, making Pippi a role model for children and adults alike. What makes Pippi Longstocking such a beloved character is her free-spirited nature, her sense of humor, and her unwavering strength and determination. The film follows the spunky and independent red-haired Pippi Longstocking (Inger Nilsson) and her adventures in the small town of Villekulla. Pippi Longstocking (1969) is a delightful adaptation of the classic Swedish children's book series by Astrid Lindgren. ![]() ![]() This is the tale of how England came to be in the ninth and tenth centuries, when King Alfred the Great, his son, and his grandson drove out the Danish Vikings who had controlled three of England’s four kingdoms and invaded the country.
